Girl Scouts of San Jacinto
Council -
Girl Scouts from age 10 to 18 gathered to learn about
leadership, team building, and how to address substance
abuse through creative use of the media, utilizing counter-ads
in particular that could be featured in the GSSJC publication
The Golden Link.

Neighborhood Centers of Houston
- Four different Neighborhood Centers worked with EYLAT as a
part of the summer Higher Education for Youth (H.E.Y.)
program, learning about teamwork and also discussing the most
challenging issues they face every day and how to address them.

Fort Worth Country Day School
- A two-day program addressing the dangers of alcohol, tobacco &
other drugs, and how to make educated, healthy decisions
& encourage others to do so.
Day One - Met with the 7th
graders during four different
class periods, discussing the effects of alcohol on the brain,
the effects of tobacco on the body, the overwhelming nature of
alcohol and tobacco marketing, and ended with a social norms
survey to be used later in the program.

Day Two - Spent the whole day
with the entire sophomore class and engaged in a mixture of
sharing our stories,
participating in fun, eye-opening activities, and discussing the
motivations behind youth substance abuse. The results of the 7th
grade social norms survey alerted the sophomores to the
perception their younger peers hold of the high schoolers, and
combined with additional activities that crystallized the
lessons of the day, the 10th graders created personalized
posters that pledged their commitment to make good decisions,
which they would use in a social norms campaign at the middle
school.
